Prisoner flees after asking a guard the way out...

When you think high security..what's the first thing that comes to mind?

Hopefully one of your answers was a prison. So you would think that a prison has a very strict policy involving people entering and leaving the building as well as keeping inmates in check. Guess again.. Read this story:

"FORGET the knotted bed sheets or tunnel. A New York prisoner has come up with a much easier way to break out of jail: ask the guards for the exit.

The inmate, who was wearing a suit for a court appearance on charges of multiple store robberies, simply wandered out of an open cell door and into a courtroom on Wednesday, the New York Post daily reported.

There, he calmly asked a court officer "which way is out?" and the guard - mistaking the escapee for a lawyer - directed him to the lobby.

The daring jailbird went straight to his 81-year-old mother's Manhattan home to change clothes, then left, she told the Post.

"I thought he was discharged. He was all dressed up," she said."

When will I finish?

So if you are in University, I do not need to explain to you the amount of readings there are. It seems as though, once you finish a few chapters for a class, there are another 3 more to read for that same class (because the chapters took you almost a week to read--being 100 pages each and all)... I think you are forgetting that is only one class. Add four more to that and you get: 1,062 pages to read every week, on average.

I have yet to come up with a solution to better this problem. However, I will say that once you get ahead of things, it's easier to stay on top of them. It's too bad that the exact minute the term actually starts (on the midnight of the day of--e.g. I started school on Thursday, so as of Thursday at 12:01 AM), you are already behind. And you can't help this. No matter how hard to try. You get to class, and that's when you realize just how much you're behind--and the term has only been in progress for less than 12 hours.

Would speed reading classes help? In my opinion, no. Only because when you read for a class, you are trying to absorb a lot of the information that the textbook throws at you, so I imagine that speed reading would only hinder that process.

So what can you do? Nothing.. You know why? Because the University and your profs owe you nothing. You are basically a pawn in their money-grabbing game.

I haven't written on this in a while, but I think I will soon start up again since it is back to school time and, of course, I need something to distract me from my studies haha.

Here's a moving story I found while browsing through www.stumbleupon.com

"A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning.

He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace.
He collected $32.
When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it.
No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100.

Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of an social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?"

Nothing Important

So living on your own sucks. haha. Dishes, laundry, cleaning, groceries...and on top of that, school work. But it's okay, I'm getting the hang of it.
So this weekend, I am stuck editing an essay but the fact that school is almost over is making it really easy for me to finish it; almost done :).

Amanda: Totally agree! We have to have a marathon of all our favorite episodes! I'm just starting the 5th season. Are they coming out with a 6th? I kinda hope not, because its getting more boring as it goes on... I miss the old team!

Annoyed

Not having a good day. Everything is winding down now at school and it's getting so hard to stay on top of everything. The weather doesn't help either. It's hot. It's cold. It's hot. It's cold. Today, it's cold! I hate it.
So I'm completely addicted to House MD. The best show ever created. It's a little repetitive at times, but that's okay, I'll deal with it.

First Blog

Hello and welcome,

This is my first blog. I don't really know what to write yet.
